When the First Atomic Submarine Was Launched?
USS Nautilus SSN 571 is the first atomic submarine which was launched in 21st January 1954. It’s been almost 55 years since the launch of this ground breaking and innovative atomic submarine. SSN 571 Nautilus’s launch began the era of new revolutionary atomic submarines. Hyman Rickover of US navy was the inspirational force behind SSN 571 Nautilus, he recruited expert scientist and competent engineers to explore all aspects of radiation, heat and fission, shielding and transfer of atomic energy. Hyman Rickover gathered the entire huge industrial infrastructure which was needed in making of this innovative atomic submarine. Moreover, Rickover asked the U.S. Congress to sponsor the production of 200 aircraft carriers, atomic submarines and cruisers.
